What: Join us for an unforgettable musical adventure at the Morris Performing Arts Center, as the South Bend Symphony presents The Orchestra Moves, part of their Shein Trust Young People’s Discovery Concert series. In collaboration with Carnegie Hall’s Link Up National Program, this hands-on concert invites students to engage actively with orchestral music, not just as listeners, but as participants.
Under the direction of guest conductor Carolyn Watson, students will explore how music “moves” through dynamics, rhythm, melody, and energy. Expect moments that stir the body as well as the heart.
The program features a lively lineup:
Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture
Strauss’s The Blue Danube
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 (1st movement)
“Toreador” from Carmen and variations
Dance pieces like Neapolitan Dance from Swan Lake
And more surprises bridging classical and contemporary themes
After the concert, they’ll get to participate in a Q&A. Curious about how instruments work, how the ensemble stays in sync, or what it’s like to be a musician? This is their chance to ask.

Lights up on learning! This print-and-go packet turns a live performance into an arts-integrated, reflective experience. Students name and track emotions, notice how actors and musicians communicate through movement and sound, compare live shows to movies or radio, and respond with creative and informational writing—organized by grade bands (Little Explorers, Pathfinders, Navigators) so you can print exactly what you need before, during, or after the show.
