Driving Question
What Do Myths and Legends Reveal About a Culture? Myths and legends have been used for thousands of years to explain the world, teach values, and pass down beliefs. In this course, you will become a great historian as you study the stories of ancient civilizations, learning about Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology. Through close reading, discussion, and creative activities, you will learn how myths reflect the belief systems, values, and traditions of the cultures that created them.
As you explore stories of gods, heroes, and monsters, you will make inferences, compare myths across cultures, and discover how stories change over time. You will examine the lasting impact of ancient mythology on modern media and consider why these stories are still told today. By the end of the course, you will have developed a deeper understanding of mythology as both storytelling and history—and how myths help shape the way people understand the world.
