As announced, IHLA will oversee all supplemental learning funds next year, in compliance with the new legislation passed. Funding will be by direct order only, (except Internet) using a new platform. This platform will have at least three different methods of ordering: Direct orders for Braintree opt-in materials (opt-in resources, live classes, Unit Study/Phonics printable books etc) Direct payment using the platform’s propriety payment system which will allow families to use their own personal accounts, with the platform’s credit card system, to order from favorite websites. Direct orders for other Vendors in the platform, allowing orders for services like piano lessons, tutoring, etc. To help us prepare for the launch of this platform we are asking parents to refer vendors and/or websites they would like to order from next year. There are already hundreds of sites approved, and with your help we will reach out to local vendors to onboard specific options for our families. In early May IHLA will be hosting onboarding webinars and training to help vendors get into the new platform. Please use this form to refer those vendors now. https://forms.gle/9HRLVQ5UK4XdYmK2A K-3 IRI Testing and K-8 Reading and Math Screeners IRI Testing is right around the corner and will be held virtually from May 1-15. Yet, these are the exact skills students need to navigate real life. Khan Academy is helping change that by offering powerful, free learning in areas like financial literacy, growth mindset, and personal finance—giving students tools they’ll use for a lifetime. Life skills | Khan Academy Financial Literacy Matters Students can explore everything from budgeting and saving to consumer credit, loans, insurance, and investments. They’ll also learn how to avoid scams and fraud, understand taxes and employment, and make smart decisions about banking, car buying, and housing. 👉 Why it matters: Studies show that students who take financial education courses are more likely to save, less likely to carry high debt, and better prepared for adulthood. Growth Mindset = Long-Term Success Learning how to embrace challenges, persist through difficulty, and build confidence can change everything. 👉 Research shows students with a growth mindset are more motivated and perform better academically over time. Personal Finance Skills = Real-World Confidence From managing income and expenses to planning for the future, personal finance lessons help students feel in control of their money. 👉 In fact, financial stress is one of the top causes of anxiety in adults—but early education can significantly reduce that. The bottom line? When students understand money, mindset, and decision-making, they’re not just learning—they’re preparing for life. Mastery Students have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery over content material through a portfolio process or by testing out of classes.  Students by sign up to test out of classes using APEX final exams. Students must score an 80% on mastery tests in order to receive credit. Only two attempts are permitted, and the second attempt must be approved by administrators. Credit can also be earned by submitting AP, SAT, ACT or CLEP test scores. Pass/Fail credit only is awarded for these options. Students may also submit a portfolio for credit approval.  Once a student has signed up, they will be sent the rubric that will be used to assess their portfolio.  Students will have the opportunity to present their portfolio to a panel of teachers and administrators.  Portfolios may receive a letter grade. Course Direct from College (Concurrent Enrollment) Students have the opportunity to take classes directly from college of their choice and receive both the college credit and high school credit from IHLA for those classes.  These classes can count toward a student's full-time schedule with IHLA, as long as the proper evidence of college course registration is submitted, and transcripts are submitted at the end of each class.  It is the responsibility of the student and parent to submit a college transcript to IHLA at the end of each semester showing the final grade earned as well as the number of college credits the course awarded. An "I" for Incomplete will be awarded as the final high school semester grade until a transcript is submitted to Idaho Home Learning Academy.  College transcripts reflecting final grades for courses taken directly through colleges must be sent to   IHLAtranscripts@malad.us  in order for college credits that are not associated with IDLA to be considered for high school credit acceptance. It is the responsibility of the parent and student to make sure all college classes being taken have been approved for credit by IHLA. Classes will be transcribed as high school elective credits unless a syllabus for the class is provided to IHLA and the course is preapproved to meet specific high school graduation requirements. It is the responsibility of the student and parent to register for college classes as IHLA does not facilitate college registration for high school students. If you unenroll in this class, it is your responsibility to communicate this to IHLA and arrange to start another class so the correct number of credits can be earned keeping in pace with the credits required for graduation. A three (3) credit college course that is one semester in length, awards 2 high school credits.  It is the responsibility of the student and parent to make sure all graduation requirements are being met for whichever institution the student intends to graduate from Course  Direct From College - Request to Receive Credit Form Evidence of college course registration is required at the start of the school year including the following: College Name, Date, Student Name, Course Name, Course Code, Number of Credits the Class Awards Process for taking Classes directly from a College Contact the college of your choice to arrange registration. Students who finish a semester or the full school year will be allowed to keep the items purchased at the end of that time period. Enrollment in Two Schools Policy Enrollment in two different schools' policies vary per state.  Please see your state specific information about dual enrollment in the table below. These policies do not apply to sports , unless the local school district requires students to take a class to participate in sports.   State Enrollment Policies Idaho IHLA is an accredited charter school and, as such, follows the State Dual Enrollment policies. Enrollment in two public schools is allowed in these circumstances: Between IHLA and homeschooling Between IHLA and private school Between IHLA and another school within Oneida School District IHLA allows students to dual enroll between IHLA and another Charter School, but the other school may have policies in place that do not allow dual enrollment between two charter schools. Students who would like to enroll between two public schools need to reach out to Trixy Lind at trixy.lind@malad.us Credits from other schools will be reviewed and credits from homeschooling and private schools might not transfer, depending on accreditation of original credits. Students can also take courses through colleges or IDLA ( Idaho Digital Learning Alliance ) as well.  The amount of the student's supplemental learning fund would be lower if the student is dual enrolled. Field Trips Policy Attendee policy: In order to prioritize our amazing students and their families, our initial event sign up spots will be open to Braintree Academy students and one parent. During the initial sign-ups families may pay for additional guests who are immediate family only.  Invitations for events will not be initially open for people outside the student’s immediate family. Student and immediate family spots are not interchangeable with people outside of the immediate family. If additional spots are available before the event sign up deadline, the event may open to people outside the immediate family (guests).  An email will be sent 5-7 days prior to the event to Braintree Academy families who are already signed up for the event to let them know additional spots are open. Costs: Costs for Braintree Students and one parent from the family are covered by Braintree Academy.  Other immediate family guests' costs need to be covered by the family. If the invitation is open to other guests, the Braintree family is responsible for making sure those costs are covered for their guest(s) Costs and deadlines are outlined in the event invitation Field Trip Sign Up: Families should sign up for the event in their area, or if they are traveling, they can sign up for an event in the area they are traveling to. Please only sign up for events you are committed to attending. Many events are limited in capacity.  For Treasure Valley  families, please be sure to choose just one event in your area to give other students the opportunity to attend an event.  If there are still spots available 5-7 days before the event, families can sign up for that event in addition to the other event they signed up for. If more than one event is signed up for, the family will have to be removed from all events. Cancellation Policy: The default cancellation policy is 24 hours prior to the event. Please read the invitation carefully for deadlines specific to that event. WATCH THIS VIDEO  to learn how to cancel your field trip. Daily work is important for practicing the skills, but we do not need to see everything a student does. The biweekly learning logs and Learning Goal portfolio submissions allow students to show learning samples on specific Learning Goals and educational goals at the grade level they are working. Any student working more than one grade level below their enrolled grade level will be referred to the Student Success Team who can offer additional support and resources.  A certified teacher will review each learning log and Learning Goal portfolio submission submitted and ensure the student has met the criteria set by the district. We expect students will be able to earn grades of 100% as the parent works with the teacher to ensure assessments meet the required criteria (i.e., learning and effort are demonstrated by the student) and assessments are turned in on time.  Note: High School students' workload will be different from the K-8 program.  If a student is struggling in daily work and not reaching mastery goals, the homeroom teacher is there to help. Parents or students may  request help on any concepts through email, text, or by attending a teacher’s office hours. The homeroom teacher can provide additional resources, support, and, if needed, a referral to the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).  Grade Level Retention Policy We strongly believe in promoting students to the next grade level based on their academic achievements and individual growth whenever possible. We aim to provide students with the necessary tools and resources to be successful.  Grade retention, or the practice of repeating a grade level, is generally discouraged. We firmly believe that with the right support and interventions, students can reach their full potential and continue to thrive academically. Studies have shown that grade retention can significantly delay a student's path to graduation and limit their future opportunities and increase their chances of dropping out in high school. However, we acknowledge that there may be rare circumstances where grade retention is deemed beneficial for the student's long-term success. If you, as a parent or guardian, have concerns about your child's academic progress and are considering grade retention, we request that you follow our established procedure. First, we ask that you compose a letter addressed to the school administration, explaining your reasons for contemplating grade retention. This letter should include any specific observations or concerns you have regarding your child's educational development. If those concerns are related to academic achievement, you will also need to complete a Tier one intervention form with your homeroom teacher and work with our Student Success Team to collect data for a minimum of six weeks.  Additionally, we strongly encourage you to provide any supplementary documentation that could further aid us in assessing your child's situation. This might include academic evaluations, diagnostic assessments, or recommendations from educational specialists who have worked with your child in the past. Such documentation will help us tailor our support to meet your child's unique requirements effectively. Upon receiving your letter, supplementary documentation, and collecting data through the Student Success Team if applicable, we will schedule a meeting with you, the administration, and the appropriate teachers to discuss your concerns in detail. This meeting will allow us to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child's academic needs, consider alternative support strategies, and explore potential solutions together.  Our dedicated staff is committed to working collaboratively with you to ensure your child's success. We will explore various academic interventions and support services to address any areas of concern. These may include tutoring, additional learning resources, or modifications to the curriculum to accommodate your child's individual needs. It is important to note that grade retention should be considered as a last resort and reserved for situations where there is substantial evidence that repeating a grade would genuinely benefit the student's overall educational growth. Our collective goal is to provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can flourish. We appreciate your trust and confidence in our virtual school program.
