Instructor: Laura Johnson
Grades: K-5
This club is intended to start building basic cooking skills and kitchen safety. We will be making some tried and tested recipes that have been hits with our students in the past, so if you took THIS (part 1 class) in the fall, try the part 2 class this spring. If you have not taken cooking classes, but are interested in cooking treats, meals, and learning some great kitchen skills, this is the club for you!
We will be covering kitchen safety and basic cutting skills, meat prep, blenders and microwave safety and foods, and quick breads and desserts. We will start with some simple dishes and build on the skills and knowledge we gain each week so that we can attempt more complex yet simple and quick meals, desserts, and dishes. Most of our dishes will be cooked from “scratch”, meaning we will use basic ingredients and tools in our kitchens. My goal is to teach students how to create simple yet tasty and quick meals that are both nutritious and delicious. Learning that “complex meals” can still be created using simple skills and ingredients will encourage students to stretch themselves and be more adventurous as they attempt to cook on their own.
