Instructor: Jason Stern

Grades: 6-12

Discover the art of capturing the world through your lens! This hands-on photography club welcomes both middle and high school students to explore the fundamentals of photography—composition, lighting, storytelling, and creative expression. Beginners will learn the basics of framing and visual storytelling, while advanced students will practice using manual camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Weekly photo challenges encourage creativity using any type of camera—phone, tablet, or DSLR—and students will share their work in a positive, encouraging environment. By the end of the program, participants will have developed a personal portfolio and a deeper understanding of visual storytelling.

Note: At times, students may view professional or historically significant photographs that include the human form as part of lessons on lighting, form, and artistic composition. All materials are presented in a respectful, age-appropriate, and educational context. Participation in these particular sessions is always optional.
