Nessy Reading and Spelling

ELA K-5th

Nessy Reading and Spelling is an award-winning, structured literacy program designed for children aged 6 to 11, typically covering Kindergarten through 5th grade. Developed at the Bristol Dyslexia Centre, it employs a multisensory, game-based approach grounded in the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham principles, making it particularly effective for students with dyslexia and other learning differences.   The program begins with systematic synthetic phonics which has been proven to be the best way to instruct early readers. As literacy skills develop, students advance to instruction in spelling, morphology, vocabulary, and comprehension. Independent research has shown the program to be effective even for those learning English as an additional language.   Nessy is a program for struggling readers, specifically created for students with dyslexia. This program tests to find gaps and then teaches those skills specifically.    Nessy is accessible on various devices, including tablets and computers, and offers a user-friendly interface.   Key Features Personalized Learning: Begins with the Nessy Challenge assessment to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, setting personalized learning targets. Comprehensive Curriculum: Covers phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, fluency, and comprehension. Engaging Content: Utilizes animated videos, interactive games, and printable worksheets to reinforce learning. Progress Monitoring: Provides detailed reporting tools for teachers and parents to track student progress and adjust instruction as needed. Motivational Rewards: Incorporates a reward system where students earn "Nessy Nuggets" to unlock games and virtual trophies, enhancing motivation.
