Details

Join us for an exciting virtual visit with scientists and engineers from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Students will learn how NASA teams design technology, solve problems, and explore space through two engaging, grade-level programs. A recording will not be available for this event, so please plan to attend live if you register.

Who: Open to all Braintree Academy families. Programs are tailored to the grade levels listed below.

Engineering a Satellite (Grades 5–8)

How do engineers build a satellite that can survive launch and work in space? In this interactive program, students will explore the engineering design process and learn how teams at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center design, build, and test satellites. The presentation also includes demonstrations that highlight tools, components, and how infrared light helps scientists study our universe.

Living and Working in Space (Grades K–4)

People are living and working in space right now! In this interactive presentation, younger students will learn how astronauts live aboard the International Space Station. Participants will explore how scientists and engineers help humans survive in space, take a look at the parts of an astronaut’s spacesuit, and even see examples of the food astronauts eat in orbit.

Optional Pre-Event Videos (Grades 5–8)

The presenter recommends watching a few short videos before the event. Some of these may be referenced during the program.
